Shades of Grey Kitchen…
Sometimes meeting a designer for the first time is not always by chance, sometimes it is meant to be. Such was the case when a Roslyn, Long Island, homeowner walked into our showroom with an architectural plan and a vision for their dream kitchen and family room renovation. During their consultation with kitchen designer, Mario J. Mulea, CR, the discussion focused on creating a mood and a feeling for this new space that would reflect their personality and the family’s future in their new kitchen. They wanted a space filled with visual interest and individuality, and they wanted a grey kitchen color.
Clearly not a “white” kitchen client, they were open to seeing new colors and finish techniques, exploring new and existing products, and using them in unexpected ways. Extensive dialog between the designer and the homeowner led them to a design where function and aesthetic merged graciously. Mario made some minor architectural changes and meticulously planned the layout and island orientation to ensure everyday convenience and maximum storage space. The resulting gray and wood palette with accents of color was exactly what the clients envisioned their space could be.
The custom cabinetry is Brookhaven by Wood Mode in vintage slate on maple and matte brown with a black glaze on cherry. Countertops are by Silestone in Lagoon and Shitake, and the backsplash is a silver travertine tumbled marble. The open plan design scheme offers textural variety in a peaceful, comfortable living space that mixes classic elements with a modern twist.
